As of 2020, Hispanics and Latinos make up 18.7% of the total U.S. population (approximately 62 million out of a total of around 330 million). The state with the largest percentage of Hispanics and Latinos is New Mexico at 47.7%. The state with the largest Hispanic and Latino population overall is California with 15.6 million Hispanics and Latinos. Hispanics are the largest racial or ethnic group in both states and will become the largest in Texas in the early 2020s.[1]
